I would imagine that some might come from Dungeon Loot.
Some might/would come from weapons/armor/stuff one made when when was level 8 and is now level 20...
( all those Rusty Rune Axes, which you have 20 of - can not sell on at the market - and all your weapons for your 50 strong army are 4 times as powerfull as the RRA)..
