If you are looking for more members in your Army, you can do [Research], then research for the new upcoming fighting unit. Once the research for this is done, you get an extra army unit of this researched type. Repeat this to get more units.

DoE wants you to "buy" Serfs, by: [Shop]>>[Buy_Serfs], need to use Souls.
(A Serf is basically a fighting peasant that you can train into any/most fighting role allowed).

Or you can buy some of the starter packages also in [Shop] some of which will also throw in a few Serfs as extras, also need to use Souls.

Do not think you can buy Serfs using Gold however. Good luck!

Send your army, as small as it might be, into long raids (Actions / Raid). The longer the time (you can chose any time interval between 1 and 8 hours) the better the results: goods, gold and, sometimes, serfs. This is, at least for now, the only way to get serfs unless you are prepared to invest some real money and do what w0gj said.

Go to the "Army" page and you'll see something like this:

Attack strength (ATK): x (+ x)
Defense strength (DEF): y (+ y)
Total hit points (HP): z
Serfs: ??
Army size: !!/50

Where:
x are the attack points of your army and (+ x) the extra points which you can research in Research / Army / Research Attack Strategies
y are the defense points of your army and (+ y) the extra points which you can research in Research / Army / Research Defense Strategies
?? is the number of available Serf that you can train for your army

When you click on the "Army" window you'll see "Army Overview" and "Train New Unit". Click on the latter and chose a unit type to train your serfs into. Once the training is done, the unit is automatically added to your army.

Serfs can also be bought from the Marketplace.

You might have to work hard to convince someone to sell their Serfs though, since there is always a shortage of Serfs in the beginning part of this game ;)

To find a Serf, you choose Actions, right beside Army.

You have to raid to find a serf.

In a Raid in the first box, you may find serfs, you will probably have to do lots of raids.
1. Raids
- Chance for serfs
- Chance for goods
- Chance for equipment
- Gold
- Duration can be set

I do not think raids in dungeons will not get you a serf, but I am pretty new.

In Research, you can Research more Army member types. To actually get serfs ,you have to raid or buy them from another player who has raided to get them.

Dungeons will only get you more gold and better equipment, no serfs though. :)
